A short statured performer who has worked nationally and internationally with such companies as STC, Arena TheatreCompany and Round Earth Company.  From Shakespeare, to physical theatre, to musicals.  She's also involved in corporate work as her alter ego The Divine Miss Em.

About Us

Atypical Theatre Company  embraces an accessible arts practice by the casting of artists from a diverse range of differing abilities and backgrounds. The Company wants to promote cross-platform arts practices by exploring the incorporation of new technology and media into our performances.   We are also committed to touring our shows nationally and internationally.

Atypical Theatre Company aims to achieve fair representation of Disability within the Arts.  The Company presents disability in a realistic way, avoiding the sensationalism and typical stereotypes perpetuated by the popular media.

  

History

In 2004, Emma J Hawkins and Kiruna Stamell, both short statured performers, met whilst both working on two different projects for STC, and continuously receiving compliments for each other performances. Instead of seeing each other as competition we realised we were both frustrated at what was on offer to is in the theatre world, and formed a parternship - Atypical Theatre Company was born.

Since then Kiruna has moved to the UK to further her career and hopes to open an overseas branch of the Company.  To see what she's upto via her alter ego:
